smARTt (San Marin Arts and Technical Arts) announced Last summer, San Marin Performing Arts Chair and Drama Teacher, Linda Kislingbury decided San Marin needed to bring attention to their outstanding ARTs classes in this new age of technology. Kislingbury, came up with smARTt and strategized integrated curriculum with the other seven Arts teachers. Kislingbury says, “The more we talked about ways to collaborate, ideas just bloomed.” Principal Adam Littlefield says,” From the time of Leonardo da Vinci, the arts and technology have been teaming up. The launch of smARTt is our way of bringing focus to the outstanding achievements of San Marin’s existing arts programs and encouraging greater collaboration in the future.” This month San Marin launches: smARTt What is it? San Marin Arts and Technical Arts (smARTt) is an integrated group of University of California approved classes which include: Visual Arts (Art/Design, Drawing/Painting, Sculpture. Ceramics, Photography, Glass Art) Performing Arts (Drama, Music, Dance), Writing Arts (Journalism and Creative Writing) and Technical Arts (Technical Theatre, Advanced Drama’s Movie Production and Music’s Sound Recording). Many of these classes are taught after regular school hours in the format of college classes. Because of these unique course offerings, students are still able to take AP and honors classes during regular school hours and fit other UC approved electives into their schedule. Students can choose to do many different electives at the same time. smARTt Shadow Day for 8th graders on January 26 smARTt will hold their first shadow for 8th graders on January 26 from 11:00 to 1:00 pm in the student center . All 8th grade students in Novato have invited as well as private schools in the area. Students will be able to hear about all aspects of smARTt and also see performances from Drama, Music, Dance, see beautifully displayed ART and the student run newspaper The Pony Express. |
