Recent Events:
  • CMEA Band Festival (4/20)  Concert Band earned an Excellent rating and a Superior rating for site reading.
  • CMEA Choral Festival (4/27)  Concert Choir earned a Superior rating and an Excellent rating for site reading.  Choraliers earned a Unanimous Superior.
  • N.E.W.S. (Novato Entertainment Workshop Showcase) 1st Show Choir Festival (5/12)-  Congratulations to all participants!  Great feed back from other schools; Evening Concert was terrific – Show Choir & Soloists.  Thanks to Keith White for doing a great job as emcee.  Thanks to the Snack Bar crew and Val Zander & BBQ crew, and especially thanks to Ms. M., Kate Kenyon and Mrs. Gates for making this amazing event happen!  Other schools already asking about next year!

ATTN: Senior Music Students –your SENIOR RECOGNITION form with a wallet size photo WAS DUE LAST WEEK!  Please turn in ASAP.  (Box on table in front of music room)

Thurs. 5/17: Mel Martin Jazz Combo Clinic  RESECHEDULED TO 5/22 (see below)

Thurs. 5/17: T.R.A.D. J.A.S.S. invited to play at CitiFinancial @ 647 Irwin St. in San Rafael from 5:00 – 6:00 pm outdoors!  All welcome to enjoy. Thurs. 5/17:  Kate Kenyon teaches two dance classes here at San Marin (part of P.E. program), and their first performance will be held in the student center @ 7:30 pm.

Fri. 5/18: Evening preview of play written by Drew Gasparini:  Crazy Like Me  performed by Drew Gasparini, Keith White, & Kasie Gasparini @ 8:00 pm Student Center.  All Welcome!  ($5.00)

Sat. 5/19: ROOM 603 Work Day – 9:00 am - Clean out and Spruce up!  NUSD is considering using the Recording Studio as a classroom next year.   We will be sharing the room with a resource class, and need to make room for approx 11-12 desks.  The new principal has offered to provide storage for some of our “stuff” but we cannot put up any shelving at this time.  Looking for help in organizing equipment, figuring out which cords work and which ones do not and setting up a professional looking/working music room.  Please contact Mrs. Gates if you have any questions; otherwise please bring your work gloves, tools, labels & sharpies!  Should hopefully only take a couple of hours if we have many hands to do the job!

Sun. 5/20: Jazz in the Afternoon 2:00 pm.   Jazz Combo, T.R.A.D. J.A.S.S. and Jazz Choir.  Tickets $5.00 at the door.  Proceeds will be donated as a Katrina Fundraiser to Habitat for Humanity - Musician’s Village.  (We’ll have bottled water available, no refreshments)

Tues. 5/22: Jazz Combo Clinic with Mel Martin.  2:45 pm  @ Student Center. All interested instrumentalists are welcome to listen to Mel Martin’s group play, then the musicians will break off into individual workshops (by instrument).  Vocalists are invited as well to work with pianist.

End of Year Spring Concerts 7:30 pm Student Center – Tickets $3.00 @ the door  **(Please sign up or contact Susan Fischer to either bring goodies or help serve refreshments for the concerts on Thurs. & Friday night.  Thanks!)

Thurs 5/31: Concert Band, Concert Choir, Orchestra, Choraliers, & Show Choir

Fri. 6/01:  Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Show Choir & Senior Recognition  New this year -- Picnic Pre-show!  Come early with your own picnic basket and/or dinner.  Enjoy listening to soloists/small groups perform before the main concert -- 6:00 pm in front of the Student Center on the patio.  If you like bring a chair (there are benches) or blanket (just in case it’s chilly). 
   
Sat. 6/02: T.R.A.D. J.A.S.S. performing at Marin Home Show @ 3:00 pm

Sun. 6/03: Jazz Band performing at Marin Home Show 11:00 – 11:30 am (Thanks to Sylvia Barry for representing San Marin Music on the Home Show committee).

T.R.A.D. J.A.S.S. performing 1:00 pm @ the Last Day Saloon –Santa Rosa

Sun:  6/03: Kate Kenyon’s RHYTHMS Dance Recital @ Terra Linda High  2:00 & 6:00 pm

Thurs. 6/07: All Music uniforms must be turned in by 2:30pm on June 7th  (watch for e-mail with more details)

Fri. 6/08: Show Choir AUDITIONS for next year 3:00 – 5:00 pm Student Center

Fri. 6/08: Evening Performance by Drew Gasparini & Austin Willisey - Student Center

Wed. 6/13: Some Jazz Choir students to sing at 1:00 pm @ Ricky’s -NUSD Retired Teachers lunch

Sat. 6/16: Graduation 10:00 am SM Football Field  (underclass instrumental students be at Music Room 9:20 am – wearing nice clothes please –no jeans)

Thurs. 6/28: Jazz Choir students to sing for an event at Unity Church – Hamilton.  Please contact Jessica Apperson for details.

Sat. 7/14: Night on the Green – San Marin Gary Gates Softball Field – Fundraiser.  Please contact Mrs. Gates (gatesmusic@aol.com) if you can help with this fun event.  Save the date and plan to bring friends and family!  Delicious dinner and wonderful entertainment – a perfect way to spend a summer evening outdoors!      (To help advertise, Show Choir will enter a float in the Novato 4th of July Parade!)      Looking for interested person to help with e-SCRIP / Apple / Savemart for next year.  Penny Gavazza will be happy to teach you the ropes (easy job – once a month!)   THANKS PENNY!      Concert Refreshments: We are in need of 2 or 3 people who will coordinate the concert snack bar table for next year – send out reminder postcards for refreshments, purchase beverages, staff the snack table for music events.   Need 2 to 3 energetic folks to share this job and keep our concert go-ers happy with yummy goodies and beverages.  Coordinating and organizing is a big part of the job – not too difficult for a good  working crew – if you have any questions, please contact Susan Fischer and she can give you more details. Congratulations to Ms. M (Samantha Maas-Baldwin) who has been hired as a music teacher at San Marin!!  One of her many projects is to get the Music Room in ship-shape for next year.  She will be holding work parties (we like to think of them as coffee & socials) every Friday a.m. from 10:00 – 12:00 during the summer, starting June 22; changing times/dates as necessary.  Please feel free to drop her a note if you have any questions, or just show up and join in the fun! Proposed slate for next year’s Music Booster Board Members was motioned by Diane Orsini, and seconded by Harjit Sims.  All in favor, none opposed.  Motion passed.  See slate of officers at the end of the minutes.
