Mathematical power is the ability to discern mathematical relationships, reason logically, and use mathematical techniques effectively. Mathematically powerful students think and communicate, drawing on mathematical ideas and using mathematical tools and techniques. All students are expected to successfully solve the mathematics problems they encounter outside the classroom, including the increasingly sophisticated mathematics demanded in most jobs and throughout most college courses. The mathematics program at San Marin has its central concern developing each student's mathematical power within a context that promotes positive attitudes towards mathematics, working with confidence, persistence, and enthusiasm.
