SAN MARIN MUSIC MADRIGAL FEAST BEHIND THE SCENE THANK YOUS -
By Mrs. Fischer

Thank You to the many people behind the scenes at this year's Madrigal Feast.  So many guests thank us and remark, "This was awesome, how do you do it?"       Well...

Kathy Simmons and John Carr begin in October - checking inventory and making lists and buying non-perishables when they see them at good prices.  Also in October, Leigh Blair creates the reservation form and Nancy Zanardi orders the tables for the student center.  As reservations come in spreadsheets are begun and tickets are hand written by Susan Fischer - whose phone & email become command central as she co-ordinates the entire behind the scenes action!   Sylvia Barry creates place cards and continues making them through the weekend!  The weekend before opening, Keith Cavallero begins to build the castle in the student center - Keith takes time off of his job as a firefighter to complete this task.  Michael Warner also helped Keith this year.

The Madrigal play (written & directed this year by Marty Garcia-Cotter & Pat Nims) is cast in November and rehearsals begin.  Edie Ainsworth & Jackie Garcia-Cotter held a costuming workshop that was open to all - and they were sewing and sewing.  Laura Bertolli, Sandy Peterson & Waiyan MacMillan volunteered their time to sew for other people's children!  Edie & Shannon Ainsworth made muffin hats to sell.  Marina Nims worked on costumes for the play & Elizabeth Rohtla gathered props. Tuesday morning of Madrigal week, Joe Taggard, Barry Richter, John Collins, Brent Ainsworth and Mrs. Gates head to Petaluma to cut trees.  That evening Randy Semorile, Marty Garcia-Cotter, Jack & June Haugen, Ginger Apperson, Danelle Block and Mrs. Gates "hang" the trees and the banners.  Friday morning Susan Hart roasts a Boar's head in her oven. John and Kathy take Madrigal Friday off of their real jobs - and they are out shopping bright and early - in stores from San Rafael to Rohnert Park!  Teresa Vance, June Haugen & Gretchen Tara drop off holly, ivy and greens in the student center.  Waiyan MacMillan decorates the boar's head!  The tables and chairs are up and the students set the places - many students are learning for the first time how to set a table!  Around 1PM Kathy and John begin to set up the Madrigal Kitchen in the classroom next to the Drama room.  And the fun really begins!!  John shops daily - for fresh rolls and chicken breasts - Kathy and Ginger Apperson were at San Marin all weekend beginning at 2PM each day and staying until 10PM.  Marian Caldwell joined them "in training" for parts of Friday and Saturday.
