Laura Posylkin NCS ChampPOSYLKIN WINS NCS SINGLES TITLE, MAKES SAN MARIN HISTORY!

San Marin Girl's Tennis standout Laura Posylkin,  capped a brilliant, undefeated, 25-0 season by winning the North Coast Section (NCS) Singles Championship today at Santa Rosa High School.  Posylkin etched her name in the history books by dominating both her opponents and playing almost flawlessly.  In doing so, she became the first San Marin High School Player to ever win an NCS Singles Championship,  and the twelfth Marin County Athletic League  Girl's player to win since records started being kept in 1977.

"That was one of the best back to back performances you're ever going to see and it was clear from the start that Laura had only one thing on her mind, and that was winning the NCS Championship pennant for her school", said Mustang Coach Jay Potter.  "She is very excited to be able to see that pennant hanging in the San Marin Gym"!

Laura's semi-final match was against unseeded Miriam Lane from Kelseyville and she quickly set the tone by going up 3-0 and then finishing the first set 6-0.  She was up 3-0 in the second set before Lane finally made a run but Laura stopped it by holding serve at 5-3 for the win.

In the Championship match, Laura was up against a very tough opponent in number one seed Brooke Irish from Amador Valley.  Irish, the number one 16's player in Northern California,  had beaten Posylkin earlier this Fall, 63, 76 and Posylkin knew she would be the toughest opponent in the tournament.  Irish broke serve to open the match but Laura broke back to even the score.  At 3-2,  with Irish up a break and serving for a 4-2 lead, Laura dug in and fought off several game points to finally break Irish  for 3-3, then hold for a 4-3 lead.

"That was the key game of the entire match", said Potter.  "Laura took control from that game on and only lost one other game. She dictated the points throughout the rest of the match, keeping Irish on her heels, then blasted winners anytime she hit a short ball or was out of position.  It was a great, overall performance against a very strong player".

The win for the talented Junior added to an already remarkable three year high school career where she is 45-0 in MCAL play, 79-5 overall in both singles and doubles, and 72-4 overall in singles.  "Laura is still improving and there's no telling how much better she can get by next year", commented Potter.  "She most certainly will go down in the history books as one of the best MCAL and NCS players ever,  and to date, quite possibly the best San Marin High School Girls player of all time".
